Two Years Ago...

I found myself thinking about Chelsi today. And then I realized that it has been another year and that we haven't had her in our lives for two years now. It is crazy.

As I was reading my scriptures this morning, in them I have the letter that James wrote, that was read at her funeral.

I started reading it, and of course the first line brings tears to my eyes. But I continued reading.

a part struck me that she wrote to James the night of the accident.

She wrote, "...We always need to remember to take a stand for the Lord and to hold on to his standards and keeping his commandments. Don't ever let the devil influence you, James, or let fears ruin your mission in anyway because he is just trying to hold you back from becoming great. He is going to try and ruin everything you have and what means the most to you in life. Don't let him ruin anything and let my love strengthen you and keep you going."

These words may not mean anything to you now, but keep in mind that the Lord is always with us, and to let go of the fear in our hearts.

My thoughts turn to Chelsi during most week, and instead of crying in sadness, I think of her strength and faith to strengthen me. She is truly in a better place and we all miss her.

But we remember we are all striving to get where she is so we may be reunited with her and our Savior.

One Year Later...

Well it has been a year since we've lost Chelsi, and I think that not a day has gone by that we haven't thought about her smiling and fun personality, her generosity, her kindness and her compassion. And she made others want to be a better person. She was beautiful inside and out.

Today, on the year mark, Chelsi's family and her parent's friends went to the LDS temple to do her work. It is something that Chelsi would and is happy about.

We will always remember Chelsi and her life and what a great influence she was to a lot of us.

We LOVE and MISS you Chelsi...

The Groupie does it again...This gives a new meaning to the Pink Ladies. What a great feeling it is to help someone else. We finally found our "CAUSE". Chelsi's run gives us a new meaning and what a fun time we all had. It's so nice to know that you can help someone and still have fun. Nancy had a dream to have a race in Chelsi's name. We thought that we would have about 200 people or so support our cause. We were overwhelmed when we had 560 people preregister and and over 800 people show up. We felt like we were really successful. The money will go towards a Scholarship in Chelsi's name to local High school track athletes.

Chelsi was an amazing person, daughter, sister, granddaughter, and friend. She was a very happy go lucky person and she always wanted the best in life. She lived her life to the fullest and she made everyone feel loved around her. She was caring and loving and very strong when challenging times arrived. She was a solid foundation to her parents and siblings. Her siblings, Shayli and Chaz, looked up to her so much. She will always be in their hearts.

Chelsi was great, and is great, and she did great things. She lived up to her true potential and dealt with the greatness that was thrust upon her.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. Like this quote by Marianne Williamson, Chelsi made others want to shine. She may not have known that she did, but she "gave us the permission to do the same". She was and is an amazing person. She was taken from us at a young age, but she is now up in Heaven doing great things. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God Bless...

Chelsi's Story

On June 6, 2008 Chelsi Petersen and a friend were driving through Provo Canyon. The friend, who was driving the car, made a left hand turn at Squaw Peak and apparently didn't see an oncoming car. They were struck, and Chelsi died at the scene.

Chelsi was a freshman at BYU and was already making her mark as a talented athlete. She had recently finished seventh in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The assistant BYU track and field coach Dick Legas said, "She wanted to win every race, everybody she competed against, that's what made her good."

The head track coach at BYU, Craig Poole said of Chelsi's untimely death, "Words cannot begin to express our feelings. It's devastating. Chelsi was one of the sweetest young ladies we have ever had on our team. She had a tremendous desire to be successful. She wanted to be here at BYU, competing, more than anything else in the world. It's just really too difficult to comprehend at the moment."
